Your front door is the first thing guests see when they arrive, so why not give it a fresh coat of paint to make a lasting impression? With the right preparation and tools, you can transform your door in just a weekend. Follow these simple steps to achieve a flawless, professional-looking finish.

1. Remove or Cover Hardware
Before you start painting, remove any door hardware such as handles, knockers, postboxes, and doorbells. If they can’t be removed, cover them carefully with Fleetwood Washi Tape to protect them from paint splatters.

2. Wash and Sand the Surface
Lightly sand your door using a sanding sponge to remove any dirt, grime, and old paint. This step is crucial for creating a smooth surface that allows the new paint to adhere properly. After sanding, clean the door with a degreasing cleaner, rinse it thoroughly, and let it dry completely. Remember, proper prep work ensures a flawless finish!

3. Repair and Prime
If your door has any chips or cracks, fill them with wood filler. Once dry, sand lightly to remove any dust. Next, apply a coat of Fleetwood Pure Grip Primer or Fleetwood Advanced Undercoat using a Fleetwood 4” Pro-D brush. Allow it to dry completely before giving the surface a very light sanding between coats.

4. Paint Like a Pro
For a panel-style door, follow the correct painting sequence:
A → B → C → D → E
Always work with the grain of the wood for the best finish. Apply two top coats of your chosen shade in Fleetwood Advanced for a durable and stylish look.
